Ubisoft Addresses Sudden Removal of Assassin's Creed Black Flag from Steam

The popular game Assassin's Creed Black Flag, known for its pirate-themed storyline, is currently not available for purchase on Steam. Despite fan theories, fuelled by previous rumours, suggesting that Ubisoft has taken the game off in preparation for a potential remastered edition, the company has clarified that the unavailability is due to a technical glitch.

Ubisoft issued a statement to Eurogamer noting that they are aware of the problem, stating, "This is due to a technical issue, and our teams are working on a solution to bring it back as soon as possible." Ubisoft also denied rumours of a remake of the game.

The speculations stemmed from a report by Kotaku in June, citing Ubisoft Singapore's significant involvement in the supposed remake of Black Flag. However, the project was reported to be years away from completion. It is intriguing to note that the unproduced game Skull & Bones, which was supposed to be a spin-off from Black Flag, despite being a decade old, also remains undated for release. The notion of building a remake of Black Flag using the technology of Skull & Bones has certainly piqued curiosity, albeit the slow progress of the latter.

Fans of the Assassin's Creed series might find Black Flag's oceanic explorations worth revisiting. For those preferring terrestrial settings in the game, this year's release of Mirage takes us back to the series' Middle Eastern roots.
