Sony Gifts Gamers With Mute Button for PS5 Startup Bee

Sony's PlayStation 5 (PS5) has just become a lot more user-friendly thanks to a new set of software beta changes. The update brings several improvements and enhancements that make the gaming experience more enjoyable and less intrusive. Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) senior vice president, Hideaki Nishino, announced the update in a lengthy blog post, causing quite a stir among the gaming community.

Nishino revealed that the update allows users to mute or adjust the volume of the PS5’s startup beep. This has been a long-standing issue for some gamers, with the loud sound proving to be a disturbance, particularly for late-night gamers. The news has been warmly received by most of the gaming community, with one Reddit user, ShoddyPreparation, rejoicing: “Holy shit. You can finally turn off the start-up beep. Late-night gamers who live with their SO rejoice!”

However, not all gamers are completely satisfied, with some calling for further improvements. Reddit user Fleakill asked: “Can I turn off the white light? I hide my console behind my TV because it’s distracting in a dark room,” and another user, Metal64Game, voiced his dissatisfaction with the controller light, stating: “Same with the controller. You can dim the light, but you can’t turn it off? Such bullshit.”

Despite these grievances, the latest update does bring a host of other QoL enhancements. These include support for a second controller, compatibility with Dolby Atmos-enabled audio devices, and several social feature enhancements. Gamers can explore all the new improvements and changes in detail via the official PlayStation blog post.

In contrast, Microsoft's Xbox community is seemingly less pleased with recent changes, expressing dissatisfaction with the new Home dashboard makeover.
