Cameron Monaghan was unaware that his audition was for a Star Wars game centered around the Jedi narrative

Cal Kestis has risen to prominence as a beloved protagonist in the Star Wars domain despite his exclusive presence in Respawn's Star Wars Jedi video games. Cameron Monaghan from the series Shameless breathed life into the character, and during a discussion at Fan Expo Boston, Monaghan shared his experiences on how he secured the role and his initial unawareness that he was auditioning for a Star Wars character.

As reported by Collider, Monaghan shared his journey, "I had only ever tried out for one other video game before, and this came across as an unnamed EA endeavor. I was aware that Respawn was involved, and having seen their work with the Titanfall series, I recognized their expertise. My representative recommended I give this project a look, asserting its high quality. Reading the script, my instincts suggested, 'This feels like Star Wars.'"

He recounted, "There was a script involving a conversation with a Sorceress about wielding sinister powers, and I thought, 'This has to be related to the Dark Side.' So I went for the initial tryout and ended up in a room with the filmmaker. The session was a success, and afterward, he passed me a toy lightsaber to check my handling, confirming my suspicion—this was definitely Star Wars."

While anticipation is high for Monaghan to reprise his role as Cal in the forthcoming third installment of the Star Wars Jedi series by Respawn, many enthusiasts also yearn to see him portray Cal in a live-action context, though such a development has yet to materialize.
